Toolmaking for Digital Morphogenesis
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper we give a comprehensive account of the ongoing design and the highly interdisciplinary implementation and application work related to a voxel automata system for digital form finding. The objective of this project is to facilitate investigations primarily into various strategies of spatially self-organisational cellular form finding principles in generative design and architecture. We describe our research approach, project background, the system’s control and coding logic, spatial constituents and geometric features, decentralised parametric design support and some early applications and results in form finding and design education. We conclude with an outlook on a number of possible future system extensions that appear interesting and useful from our research perspective.

Neural correlates of Early Stone Age toolmaking: technology, language and cognition in human evolution.
Archaeological and palaeontological evidence from the Early Stone Age (ESA) documents parallel trends of brain expansion and technological elaboration in human evolution over a period of more than 2Myr. However, the relationship between these defining trends remains controversial and poorly understood. Here, we present results from a positron emission tomography study of functional brain activa...
متن کاملTechnology, expertise and social cognition in human evolution.
Paleolithic stone tools provide concrete evidence of major developments in human behavioural and cognitive evolution. Of particular interest are evolving cognitive mechanisms implied by the cultural transmission of increasingly complex prehistoric technologies, hypothetically including motor resonance, causal reasoning and mentalizing. To test the relevance of these mechanisms to specific Paleo...
متن کاملCognitive Demands of Lower Paleolithic Toolmaking
Stone tools provide some of the most abundant, continuous, and high resolution evidence of behavioral change over human evolution, but their implications for cognitive evolution have remained unclear. We investigated the neurophysiological demands of stone toolmaking by training modern subjects in known Paleolithic methods ("Oldowan", "Acheulean") and collecting structural and functional brain ...
متن کاملEDM process adaptation system in toolmaking industry
A Design Adaptation System for machining in toolmaking (DASMT) is proposed in order to avoid the knowledge gap between product and tool designers. The focus of the presented paper on the development of the Design Adaptation System for EDM (DAS-EDM). This system helps the designer to check the viability of individual features to their machinability by EDM process. The system reveals features, wh...
متن کاملA system for presenting manufacturing knowledge on the design level in toolmaking
A novel approach to avoid the knowledge gap between the design and the manufacture is presented in this paper. The main idea is to build the system in the form of computer program, which core is the manufacturing expert system, to be used by the product designer. The system reveals critical features of the newly designed product from the manufacturing point of view and points them out to the pr...
